During the West Bengal election campaign, a clash between IPS officer Ajay Pal Sharma and TMC candidate Jahangir Khan has now become a major talking point.

On Monday, Sharma directly reached Khan’s residence and clearly warned his family members. He said that if anyone again threatens voters or disrupts the election process, the police will take strict legal action. Moreover, Sharma asserted firmly, “If there is any wrongdoing, we will respond appropriately.”

Meanwhile, the visit revealed another issue regarding security arrangements. Although rules allow only 10 personnel under ‘Y’ category security, officials deployed 14 police personnel at the site. Consequently, Sharma issued a show-cause notice to the local Superintendent of Police.

Following this, political reactions intensified quickly. Amit Malviya praised the move, stating that it sends a strong message to those intimidating voters.

However, TMC strongly opposed the officer’s appointment. The party questioned Sharma’s past record and criticized the Election Commission. Leaders argued that Bengal is not Uttar Pradesh and warned of consequences if neutrality is not maintained.

At the same time, Akhilesh Yadav entered the debate and alleged that BJP has sent its “agents” as observers.

As a result, with elections approaching, this confrontation continues to escalate and further intensifies the already tense political atmosphere in West Bengal.
