Diplomatic sources indicate July 11 meeting remains under consideration
US-Iran talks
Islamabad has become the top venue for the upcoming round of technical talks between the US and Iran.
According to diplomatic sources quoted in Dawn, the talks are likely to be held on July 11.
However, the venue for the talks has not been finalized yet.
In addition, the Swiss Bürgenstock resort has also been shortlisted for the purpose.
The talks will help continue the diplomatic process between the US and Iran.
Previously, the two nations had signed a Memorandum of Understanding on June 18.
This was done to promote peace efforts in West Asia.
Afterwards, the technical talks were held in Switzerland on June 21.
It is reported that Pakistan and Qatar served as the mediators during the talks.
The next round of talks will cover Iran’s nuclear program.
Furthermore, there will be negotiations about sanctions relief.
There will also be talks regarding unfreezing the Iranian funds kept abroad.
Moreover, the security situation of the region is expected to figure significantly.
Negotiators should evaluate their attempt to sustain the Lebanon ceasefire.
At present, Islamabad and Bürgenstock are the two potential sites.
Nevertheless, diplomats say Islamabad is the better choice.
The proposed negotiating is intended to develop the framework adopted in the memorandum.
The framework gives the time of 60 days to conduct the negotiations.
These negotiations will be concerned with the nuclear programme of Iran and other associated issues.
On the other hand, Iran has postponed the negotiations temporarily.
The reason for this postponement is the state funeral of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iranian officials said they will declare their delegation after the completion of the ceremonies.
The ceremonies are scheduled to last till July 7.
The final ceremony is expected to take place on July 9 at Mashhad.
