At least 14 Yemeni soldiers were killed following an attack from Iranian-backed Houthi rebels south of the coastal town of Hodeidah.

Also, 23 soldiers were injured, reported two Yemeni military officials.

The attack was considered one of the deadliest by the Houthis in recent times.

According to military sources, the attack took place late Friday in the Jabal Dubas region of the Hays district.

Initially, the rebels managed to seize several military installations.

But government forces retaliated with a counterattack.

Consequently, they recaptured the seized posts by early Saturday.

Besides, there were intense exchanges of gunfire for some hours.

A military source said that the Houthis used snipers, drones, and mortars during the attack.

In addition, the majority of the military casualties occurred due to the sniper fire.

Then government forces retaliated strongly.

As a result, several Houthi fighters were reportedly killed or injured.

However, it is worth noting that the official statistics concerning the number of deaths among the rebels have not been made public.

Since 2015, Yemen has been involved in an armed conflict with Houthi rebels and the internationally recognized government.

Thus, due to the protracted civil war in the country, millions of civilians have been affected.

Moreover, hundreds of thousands have been killed as a consequence of the fighting.

Thus, Yemen remains among the countries experiencing the worst humanitarian crisis around the world.

Despite the ceasefire agreement signed by the United Nations in 2022, the clashes continue in many parts of the country.
