Three Killed as Anti-Drug Operations Intensify
Eastern Pacific Strike
The United States’ military has conducted yet another raid on an alleged drug smuggling boat in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. At least three individuals died during the raid. This is the third raid conducted by US forces in the past week.
In the statement issued by the US Southern Command, the ship was reported to be associated with narcotics trafficking. It has been noted that criminal groups are still using maritime routes to move drugs within the region.
Within a span of a month from September, at least 200 individuals have lost their lives in these raids in the Caribbean Sea and Eastern Pacific regions. These missions are undertaken with the sole purpose of breaking down the trafficking groups.
It was reported that the ship was associated with an organization that indulged in organized criminal activities. However, no proof has yet been made available.
The mission came into focus when the military revealed the color video of the missile strike, which depicted a small boat in the ocean, followed by it catching on fire.
The government of US President Donald Trump has stepped up its operations against drug cartels from Latin America. This operation is described as being part of a wider campaign to deal with the problems of narcotic trafficking.
According to the United States Southern Command, the mission was executed according to the orders of General Francis L. Donovan. It is expected that maritime interdiction will be an important part of US policies in the region regarding anti-narcotics operations.
