There have been talks from Congress to choose a new Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president. The move comes after D.K. Shivakumar was chosen as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress Party, stated that they require a leader who can bind everyone together. It was stressed that there is a need to build up the organization before the next Assembly election.

Kharge revealed that almost 24 months are left before Karnataka will go back to the polls. This is why Congress is looking for an active leader to speed up the organization process.

In addition, the next state president should be a team leader.

Several names of senior Congress leaders have been put forward. Nevertheless, the high command of Congress has yet to finalize any name. They will consider issues such as organizational strength, regional balance, and caste factor while deciding.

On the other hand, the issue of cabinet formation continues to be deliberated upon by the party. Kharge made it clear that no formula has yet been fixed in terms of allocation of ministerial portfolios. Discussions are being held for allocating posts of Deputy Chief Ministerships and other important posts as well.

In addition, there could be expansion of the Cabinet in phases. Additional ministers would be allocated seats in the Cabinet during the coming weeks. The decision would ultimately depend on the assessment of the Chief Minister.

Previously, D.K. Shivakumar had informed the Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot about his election as Congress Legislature Party Leader.
