Rashid Kidwai reveals alleged Congress talks before BJP switch
Bengal Politics
Senior journalist Rashid Kidwai has made a significant political claim.
He shared the remarks during an ANI podcast interview.
Kidwai alleged that Suvendu Adhikari wanted to join Congress.
This reportedly happened before he entered the Bharatiya Janata Party.
According to Kidwai, Suvendu was unhappy with Mamata Banerjee’s leadership.
He allegedly met Rahul Gandhi to discuss joining Congress.
Kidwai claimed Suvendu wanted to become Congress’s leading face in West Bengal.
However, Rahul Gandhi reportedly declined the proposal.
Kidwai alleged Rahul said there was no space in the party then.
The claim has not been independently verified.
He also made a similar claim about actor-politician Vijay.
Kidwai said Vijay once expressed interest in joining Congress.
He claimed Rahul Gandhi gave a similar response.
Suvendu Adhikari later joined the BJP in 2020.
He defeated Mamata Banerjee in the Nandigram Assembly election in 2021.
He currently serves as the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly.
Kidwai also discussed Congress’s electoral challenges.
He said the party still depends on regional alliance partners.
He argued Congress cannot easily secure double-digit seats alone in many states.
He cited Kerala as a notable exception.
Neither Suvendu Adhikari nor the Congress officially responded to these claims immediately.
The remarks have sparked fresh political debate ahead of upcoming elections.
