Congress High command may review Karnataka power structure

Karnataka Politics

Fresh political speculation has emerged in Karnataka. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made an unexpected visit to New Delhi on Tuesday.

According to party sources, Congress leaders may discuss cabinet expansion and leadership issues. The meeting comes at a crucial time for the state government.

Siddaramaiah confirmed that the party high command invited him for consultations. However, he stated that he was unaware of the exact agenda before the meeting.

Reports suggest that Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal contacted the Chief Minister and informed him about the scheduled discussion.

Cabinet Expansion And Leadership Talks Heat Up The Karnataka government has recently completed three years in office. Hence, talks on cabinet reshuffle and leadership change have gained momentum.

Several legislators continue to seek ministerial positions. Therefore, party leaders are under pressure to balance regional and caste representation in the cabinet.

Political observers believe the Congress leadership wants to prevent internal disagreements before future elections.

D.K. Shivakumar Supporters Renew Demand

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said he would attend any meeting if invited by the party leadership.

At the same time, his supporters have renewed demands for a leadership transition. They argue that the party should honor the reported power-sharing understanding reached after the 2023 Assembly election victory.

According to political discussions, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar were expected to share the Chief Minister’s tenure. However, Congress leaders have never officially confirmed the details of such an arrangement.

High Command Holds Final Authority

For now, the Congress high command remains the final decision-maker. Any leadership change or cabinet expansion will depend on consultations with senior leaders.

The coming days are expected to be crucial for the politics of Karnataka. Party decisions could impact on governance, electoral strategy and internal cohesion as the state prepares for future political challenges.
