Centre Grants First Clearance for Shree Jagannath Airport, Puri
The construction of Shree Jagannath International Airport in Puri has made some progress recently. The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change has allowed the diversion of 27.887 hectares of forest land to construct the said airport.
It is to be noted that earlier, the Government of Odisha had filed the application for approval under the provisions of the Forest Conservation Act, 1980. In this connection, the Advisory Committee recommended that it approve the said application. On receiving the recommendation, the Central Government gave clearance for the proposed airport project in its initial stage.
But the State Government needs to meet some conditions first. After meeting these conditions, the project will progress to its next stage.
The main motive behind building this airport is the promotion of tourism in Puri.
