Authorities clear encroachments near Howrah Station and Ganga Ghat
Anti-encroachment drive
Since the new government took over in West Bengal, the administration has been pretty watchful and firm. That’s why they’re still busy with operations to clear out illegal structures in different areas. As part of this ongoing push, officials launched a big cleanup drive late Saturday night right outside Howrah Station.
While the operation was underway, government bulldozers tore down illegal shops and businesses that were set up on sidewalks and public roads. They mostly focused on clearing out the illegal structures near Ganga Ghat and the bus stand, which are right outside that really busy train station.
Officials also mentioned that the goal of this drive was to cut down on congestion and free up public spaces for people walking and using public transport. Police and city workers were on hand too, making sure everything stayed orderly throughout the operation.
Naturally, this operation caught the eye of local residents and travelers, since that area is always bustling with people. The administration also hinted that they might continue with similar drives in other parts of the state to clear illegal structures and help traffic move more smoothly.
