Congress leader says paper leaks hurt poor students the most

An open letter from the senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has been written to the protesting youths of Jantar Mantar.
He stated that he was writing to them as a simple citizen, and not only as a politician or as a member of parliament.
He showed a lot of concern about the issues faced by the youths of India.
In addition, he called upon the government to take necessary action regarding exam papers leakages.
He further requested Sonam Wangchuk to give up his hunger strike.
He stated that this appeal is based on his personal beliefs.
Tharoor mentioned that he comes from a middle-class family background.
His father used to work in a newspaper.
His mother was a housewife.
He mentioned that his parents had raised three children on one income.
He said that scholarships, examinations, and true results decided his destiny.
He was educated at schools in Mumbai and Kolkata.
Later on, he enrolled in college education in Delhi.
Being successful in the university examinations, he was eligible for IIM.
But he preferred to pursue international business education in the US on a scholarship.
According to him, he had not received anything as an inheritance.
Rather, he had succeeded through hard work and merit-based examinations.
Tharoor emphasized that a level playing field of merit-based examinations is the only way forward for poor and middle-class students.
But leaks in papers ruin all these chances.
Moreover, paper leaks damage the credibility of the examination system.
Rich students usually have other ways ahead of them.
But poor students have to rely solely on examinations.
Thus, the exposure of paper is the betrayal of students and the hard work of their families.
He advised youth not to give up hope.
He assured that the efforts of citizens will restore faith in the system.
While Tharoor once again appealed to Sonam Wangchuk to stop his fast.
He said that Wangchuk had already stirred the conscience of the country.
He said that India needs Wangchuk’s voice in the coming days.
Moreover, Tharoor also informed that parliament will resume its sessions next Monday.
He said that the worries of students must be brought before the parliament.
According to him, democracy can solve all these issues.
Finally, he appealed to the Central Government to hold constructive talks with the students.
He said that listening to young citizens is a sign of good leadership and not of weakness.
