Pitha Competition Celebrates Odisha’s Rich Culinary Heritage in America

The Odia Community celebrated the Odia cuisine of Odisha in Minneapolis.

This celebration was held as part of the 57th Odisha Society of the Americas (OSA) Convention.

An exciting Pitha Competition was organized.

The competition highlighted the traditional food culture of Odisha on an international level.

Additionally, this event was supported by the Shri Chakradhar Mallik Foundation for Odia Culture.

OdiaRoots.org organized the event.

In all, there were 22 contestants who cooked traditional and new varieties of Odia Pithas.

Some of the dishes included Chitau, Enduri, Arisa, Kakara, Manda, Poda Pitha, Raja Aamba Pitha, and Saptapuri.

In addition, this event commemorated the festive occasions, familial customs, and the food heritage of Odisha.

Judging of the competition was done by Padma Shri Aruna Mohanty, Dr. Nita Mohanty, and Jayanti Mohanty.

The tradition began in 2016.

Organisers continue the event in memory of Late Shri Chakradhar Mallik.

This year marked the competition’s 10th edition.

Meanwhile, Dr. Annapurna Pandey of the University of California stressed promoting the Odia language and culture globally.

In the competition, Bijayalakshmi Senapati won first prize for Enduri Pitha.

Gopa Guru secured second place for Poda Pitha.

Additionally, Sunita Rout finished third for Kakara Pitha.

The event also inspired younger generations to embrace their Odia roots.

Overall, the competition strengthened Odisha’s cultural identity among the global Odia diaspora.
