Attack Raises Fresh Concerns Over Global Oil Supply Security
Iran drone strike
Guns have sounded in the Strait of Hormuz once again. As such, there is now heightened anxiety among shipping businesses globally.
There was an attack on a commercial cargo ship using drones off the coast of Oman. This alarmed the world’s maritime bodies.
Also, it is the United States that blamed Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) for the attack.
The ship that came under attack has been identified as the Singapore-flagged container ship, Ever Lovely.
As per US officials, the IRGC used a drone for attacking the ship off the coast of Oman.
On the other hand, this has made the US-Iran peace talks a difficult task.
Reuters said that the US officials accused IRGC of carrying out the attack.
Nonetheless, the US administration has not made any announcements regarding the response to the attack.
Likewise, there has been no official announcement from the Iranian government.
Previously, the Iranians had threatened retaliation against any vessels that entered the Strait of Hormuz without authorization.
Furthermore, it was reported by UK Maritime Trade Operations that there was a missile attack on a ship near the coast of Oman.
The damage caused by the projectile was done to the control room of the vessel.
However, there were no casualties reported as none of the crew members died.
Nonetheless, the attack has once again brought into focus the security of the seas.
In addition, there are concerns over the possibility of disruption of oil shipments in the area.
