Indian Army is continuing its work with the Cheetal helicopters in Ladakh and Siachen region. In addition, investigations are under way concerning the May 20 accident.

The accident happened near Tangtse in Ladakh. Technical malfunction is considered to be the cause of the crash.

A thorough investigation has been initiated. The emphasis is put on the helicopter transmission system.

The investigators will find out which component was faulty. Afterwards, they will suggest preventive measures.

There are almost 25 upgraded Cheetal helicopters at the disposal of the 14 Corps of Leh. The helicopters carry out vital tasks in the high altitude regions.

Nevertheless, the Advanced Light Helicopter Dhruv is not able to conduct some frontline activities in Ladakh. That is why the Indian Army is using the lightweight Cheetal helicopters.

According to the official information, Cheetal helicopters continue their flights every day after the accident. They are necessary for carrying out missions in tough conditions.

On May 20, a Lieutenant Colonel and a Major were the pilots of the helicopter. Major General Sachin Mehta was also onboard the helicopter.

Luckily, all the officers were alive after the crash. However, the investigation goes on.
