Suvendu Adhikari has made a big move against killing animals in West Bengal.

This is the first time the BJP government in West Bengal is bringing in several important new rules.

Now, the state government has put out a new announcement about rules for killing animals.

The government made this choice based on a 1950 West Bengal law and an order from the Calcutta High Court in 2018.

With these new rules, you now need a fitness certificate to kill an animal.

Only the heads of the Panchayat Samiti, municipal heads, and government vets can give out these certificates together.

Also, people applying for a certificate have to confirm things in writing first.

That written statement needs to say the animal is over 14 years old.

It also has to say the animal can’t work or be used for breeding.

And the statement might also bring up things like a long-term sickness, physical issues, a bad injury, or a disease that can’t be cured.

So, animals that are permanently disabled could be allowed under this new rule.

At the same time, the state government has stopped people from killing animals in open spaces all over the state.

The announcement says that killing animals can now only happen in approved city slaughterhouses.

Besides that, officials will keep a close eye on whether these rules are being followed.

If someone breaks these rules, they could go to jail for up to six months.

They might also have to pay a fine of up to ₹1,000.

Sometimes, people who break the rules could face both jail time and a fine.

But if your certificate is turned down, you can fight that decision through an official appeal.

You can reach out to the state government within 15 days of it being rejected.
