Clarification and reactions intensify leadership debate
Vasundhara Raje controversy
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje stirred a fresh political controversy after she said at a public meeting that she had “lost everything” and could not even protect herself. Consequently, her remarks triggered widespread debate across the state.
Meanwhile, opposition parties linked her statement to her not being chosen for the Chief Minister’s post. At the same time, Rajasthan BJP state president Madan Rathore intensified the row by invoking Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a separate controversy involving a Marwari couplet.
However, as the issue escalated on social media, Vasundhara Raje issued a clarification and described the controversy as a conspiracy by her opponents. She emphasized that no position matters more than people’s love. For instance, she explained that when a national highway passed in front of her house in Dholpur, authorities forced her to shift her boundary wall. Therefore, she argued that if she could not save her own house due to rules, she could not be expected to protect others’ homes either.
Earlier, on Thursday, Raje joined a public outreach program in Manohar Thana along with her son Dushyant Singh. During her address, she highlighted her close connection with the people and urged them to maintain their trust in her. Furthermore, she acknowledged everyday issues, noting that some people have not received houses, pensions, or compensation. She added that while some benefit, others do not; nevertheless, everyone must work together to resolve these problems.
In addition, Raje reiterated her point, stating that she herself had faced similar challenges. She admitted that she could not do anything for herself, lost everything, and failed to protect even her own interests. As a result, her statement quickly went viral, and many interpreted it as a reflection of her disappointment over not becoming Chief Minister.
Subsequently, when former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav visited Jaipur, journalists asked him about the issue. In response, he said that if Vasundhara Raje had become Chief Minister, she might have delivered better governance. Similarly, former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot supported this view.
Finally, during a visit to Bikaner, Madan Rathore responded to the controversy. He asserted that the party had been recognizing Raje’s contributions and pointed out her role as national vice president. He also argued that one person cannot become Chief Minister every time. Moreover, he recited a Marwari couplet suggesting that one should adapt to circumstances and accept what is available. He concluded by remarking that no one can always confront Modi, thereby further intensifying the political debate in Rajasthan.
