Rahul Gandhi likely to attend Vijay’s swearing-in as alliance talks gain momentum
Congress support to TVK
After winning a massive victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, TVK intensified its efforts to form the government in the state. Meanwhile, political discussions over alliances gained momentum as Vijay Thalapathy’s party moved closer to power. To reach the magic number of 118 seats, TVK started talks with like-minded parties for support.
According to sources, Congress decided to support TVK in forming the government. Earlier, Congress General Secretary K. C. Venugopal stated that Vijay had requested Congress support for government formation. Subsequently, Congress leaders reportedly agreed to back Vijay’s government.
In addition, reports suggest that Rahul Gandhi may attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new government. In return for its support, Congress has reportedly sought two cabinet minister posts in the TVK-led government. At present, Girish Chodankar and Praveen Chakravarty are holding discussions with TVK leaders regarding the demand.
Sources also revealed that Rahul Gandhi strongly supported the alliance with TVK. However, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge preferred the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee to make the final decision instead of limiting discussions to Delhi. Consequently, Tamil Nadu Congress leaders held an online meeting after the Delhi discussions and formally approved support for TVK.
TVK chief Vijay is likely to take oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on the 7th. Since Vijay considers Thursday an auspicious day, he reportedly chose that date for the ceremony. Furthermore, the swearing-in event is expected to take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
Meanwhile, party leaders instructed all TVK MLAs not to leave Chennai. Currently, authorities have accommodated around 108 elected TVK legislators at a hotel in Chengalpattu near Mahabalipuram.
