Doctors warn prolonged fasting may seriously affect vital organs
20th day hunger strike
Hunger strike of educator Sonam Wangchuk has continued for 20 days.
Physicians have informed that it might cause some serious harm to his health.
They pointed out that continuous fast can harm important organs of body.
Following the orders of Delhi High Court, officials are taking care of his health everyday.
At the same time, leaders of different political parties and institutions have asked him to stop the fast.
But he did not agree to do so.
He is conducting hunger strike in Jantar Mantar of New Delhi.
The agitation revolves around the irregularities in examinations, such as NEET paper leak case.
According to the latest medical bulletin published by Dr. Satish Lamba, Wangchuk has lost more than nine kilograms of weight since he started fast on June 28.
His present weight has been stated as 56.9 kg.
Dr. Lamba further said that Wangchuk’s body has begun utilizing its glucose stocks.
Furthermore, he warned that prolonged fasting could start to have an impact on his internal organs.
Wangchuk received increasing support from many people.
Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, asked why the Central Government had not yet started talking to him.
Arvind Kejriwal, AAP National Convenor, went to meet Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar and extended his support to him.
Several leaders of the AAP have gone to meet Wangchuk along with him.
Besides, the Supreme Court Bar Association appealed to Wangchuk to end his hunger strike.
Famous public personalities like Vishal Dadlani, Sonakshi Sinha, Sayaji Shinde, Atul Kulkarni, Vir Das, Shobhaa De, Raj Thackeray, and Priya Dutt have also shown their concern.
Jean Drèze and Reetika Khera, Economists, went to see Wangchuk at the protest place and met him.
Supporters have decided to go for a rally towards the Parliament on July 20.
On the other hand, Wangchuk declared that he would go on fasting till his demands are met.
