Election Commission responds to reports of internal objections over voter rolls
Voter List Revision
Position by Election Commission on the Special Intensive Revision has been made clear.
The position was expressed following the reports of objections within the poll panel.
Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi have raised some concerns.
Reported is that they raised objections at least 14 times in a span of 10 months.
The objections were regarding voter deletion and electoral data management.
They were also regarding amendments in Form 6 and access to voter database.
All such decisions have the approval of all the three Commissioners.
The Election Commission comprises Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi are the other two.
ECI has also made clear its consensus-driven decision-making system.
Majority decision prevails whenever there is a difference of opinion.
SIR process started in the state of Bihar in the year 2025.
Afterwards, the ECI extended this practice to many other states and UTs.
According to the ECI, the motive behind conducting SIR is to improve the accuracy of electoral rolls.
Another goal behind conducting SIR is to remove all such voters who are not eligible to be on electoral rolls.
ECI wants to see only eligible voters on the electoral rolls.
