Vadra says he has nothing to hide after bail
ED investigation
Businessman Robert Vadra received major relief from a Delhi court in the Shikohpur land deal-linked money laundering case on Saturday. The Rouse Avenue Court granted him bail on a personal bond of Rs 50,000.
After securing bail, Vadra addressed the media and said he has nothing to hide. Moreover, he stated that he remains fearless and is ready to answer every question raised by investigators.
He also said he fully trusts India’s judicial system. However, he alleged that the Enforcement Directorate operates under government influence. Despite that, he assured authorities that he would complete all required legal formalities and cooperate with the investigation.
Furthermore, Vadra claimed that political pressure increases whenever his family receives public support. Nevertheless, he said he has the courage to face every challenge.
Earlier, Vadra appeared before the Rouse Avenue Court in connection with the money laundering case linked to the Shikohpur land deal. His lawyer argued that authorities had never arrested him during the investigation. Therefore, the court should grant him bail. After hearing the arguments, the court approved the bail request. The next hearing will take place on July 10.
According to the Enforcement Directorate, Vadra’s company, Skylight Hospitality Private Limited, purchased nearly 3.5 acres of land in Haryana’s Shikohpur village from Onkareshwar Properties Private Limited in February 2008 for Rs 7.50 crore.
However, the agency alleged that no actual payment took place. Investigators also claimed that the sale deed contained false details, including references to a cheque that was never issued or encashed.
Besides, the ED said, the sale deed was undervalued causing evasion of stamp duty under Section 423 of the Indian Penal Code. In its prosecution complaint, the agency identified Rs 58 crore as proceeds of crime. Subsequently, authorities provisionally attached 43 immovable properties worth Rs 38.69 crore.
