Commission seeks impartial inquiry over alleged wrongful murder accusation.
Human rights probe
Odisha Human Rights Commission raised issues regarding the working of Nayagarh Police.
Intervention came from the Commission due to false charges of murder.
There were allegations against authorities that they had shown an innocent person as a murder suspect to the media.
Thus, the Commission ordered a fair investigation.
They asked Central Range DIG to prepare a report.
Further, the investigation team will look into the involvement of Additional SP, Nayagarh.
The Commission responded due to a complaint by social activist Pratap Chandra Mohanty.
There were allegations of violation of human rights.
As per the complaint, Ajit Sahu was murdered on May 10.
A press conference was organized by the police on May 12.
But in reality, the actual accused had not yet been arrested.
On the contrary, it is alleged that the police brought a non-accused individual and showed him to the media.
He was said to have been covered with a dupatta and identified as the accused person.
It is alleged that this incident has adversely affected his dignity and rights guaranteed by the Constitution of India.
Further, the Commission asked for an inquiry into the conduct of Additional SP Jyoti Ranjan Samantaray.
Some of the allegations against him were related to misuse of power.
It was also alleged that he protects the illegal sand and stone mafias.
The Commission noted that the allegations are human rights violations.
