One-day session on April 30 from 11 AM
Nari Shakti Vandan Act
The Legislative Assembly will convene a special session to discuss the Women’s Reservation Bill. The Assembly Secretariat has already issued a notification. The one-day session will take place on the 30th, and it will begin at 11 AM. During the session, members will actively discuss the role and contribution of women in India’s democracy.
Earlier, the Parliament convened a special session on the 16th of this month. The central government planned to pass both the Delimitation Bill and the Women’s Reservation Bill. However, it failed to secure support from two-thirds of the members. As a result, the Delimitation Bill did not pass. Consequently, the Women’s Reservation Bill could not move forward.
Meanwhile, the BJP has continuously targeted opposition parties over the issue. The party has alleged that the opposition conspired to block the Women’s Reservation Bill. In addition, BJP leaders have organized women’s protest rallies at various places. On the other hand, opposition parties have strongly countered these claims. They have accused the BJP of attempting to pass the controversial Delimitation Bill under the guise of the Women’s Reservation Bill.
In this context, the BJP has prepared a strategy to convene special sessions in legislative assemblies of BJP-ruled states. Through these sessions, the party aims to pass resolutions in support of the Women’s Reservation Bill, also known as the “Nari Shakti Vandan Act.” Accordingly, the Odisha government has called a special session of its Legislative Assembly. It is expected that members will hold a detailed discussion and pass a resolution in support of the bill.
