Péter Magyar says Hungary will arrest Benjamin Netanyahu under International Criminal Court warrant
Péter Magyar statement
According to Péter Magyar, Benjamin Netanyahu may face arrest upon entering Hungary.
According to Magyar, Israel’s former Prime Minister may be detained if he sets foot in Hungary due to the existence of an ICC arrest warrant issued against him. He stressed that Hungary will respect ICC arrest warrants and abide by international laws and regulations.
Furthermore, Magyar assured that Hungary will remain a member of the ICC. Magyar also mentioned his intention to revoke the decision to exit the ICC by the previous government led by Viktor Orbán.
Previously, Magyar extended an invitation to Netanyahu to visit Hungary. He stated that as a result of the victory of the recent elections, he extended invitations to world leaders to mark the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian revolt of 1956. Netanyahu was among the other invited leaders. However, Magyar stated that Netanyahu had been informed of their adherence to the ICC rules at the time.

The ICC issued its warrant for Netanyahu’s arrest in 2024 due to his involvement in war crimes and crimes against humanity. Prior to this development, the government led by Viktor Orbán opted to exit the ICC. This exit will come into effect in 2026.
