In light of the ongoing campaign ahead of the West Bengal Assembly polls, violence broke out between BJP and Trinamool Congress workers at Ekbalpur Police Station in Kolkata on Tuesday.

This happened when the BJP was holding its rally along Hossain Shah Road at an event led by BJP candidate Rakesh Singh. However, the event soon turned violent, leading to the arrest of nine people by police forces, consisting of five BJP workers and four TMC supporters.

Three FIRs have been lodged by the Kolkata Police, followed by an extensive probe into the matter.

Furthermore, with the voting process due to be held in two phases across all the 294 assembly seats on April 23 and April 29 respectively, tensions in West Bengal are rising. This is because the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, has alleged BJP’s interference in her campaign, as she claimed her convoy is being deliberately slowed down by authorities. In addition, she stated that the central government was using its agencies to threaten TMC supporters.

On the other hand, BJP continues to showcase its power while securing tight security measures before the polling day scheduled for May 4.
