Mumbai manhole death

Heavy rains have caused a major problem in Mumbai.

A 55-year-old man met his death on Thursday after falling in an open manhole.

The tragedy took place at about 12:30 p.m. on Khairani Road.

This road links Andheri and Kurla.

The man had been talking on his mobile phone when he was walking.

He fell in the open manhole and got washed away.

As per the official reports, the man was Aslam Isaf Sheikh.

The firefighters and police managed to recover his umbrella and slippers.

In this regard, they launched a search mission of two hours.

Later, he was shifted to the Rajawadi Hospital.

Unfortunately, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

According to officials, the manhole had been kept open by a private contractor.

The contractor was performing some repair work there.

Therefore, BMC deputy mayor Sanjay Ghadi took strict actions in this regard.

He informed that police would file a case of culpable homicide against the contractor.

Before this, a tree fall had killed an 11-year-old boy in Chembur.

This incident took place two days back.

Consequently, the recent tragedy has prompted a rethinking of civic carelessness.

Additionally, the floodwater submerged many areas in Mumbai.

The places like Dadar, Parel, Hindmata, Worli, and Andheri were inundated.

A day of rainfall was more than 200 mm in Mumbai.

Santacruz and Bhandup received maximum rainfall in the city.

Both places received 238.8 mm of rain.

In addition, the heavy rain caused disruption to suburban railway services in Mumbai.

The commuters experienced 10 to 15 minutes delay in trains.

However, the railway authority stated that there were no issues in the services.

On the other hand, the India Meteorological Department gave a new warning.

The IMD gave a forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

There would be winds blowing from 50 to 60 kmph.

The warning is for Mumbai and adjoining areas.

It is noteworthy that the monsoon season began in Mumbai on June 23.

The monsoon came 13 days late this time.
