Bengal politics
There has been an important political crisis taking place within the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
A faction within the TMC deposed Mamata Banerjee as the President of the party.
It appointed senior MLA Arup Roy as the new President of the party.
This took place in a special convention that was organized in Kolkata.
The chairperson of this convention was Rebel leader Ritabrata Banerjee.
They claimed themselves to be the real TMC.
They also expelled National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
They constituted a new national executive committee.
The list of members of the committee comprises of people like Arup Roy, Firhad Hakim, Arup Biswas, Biplab Mitra, etc.
The rebels have stated that Arup Roy was chosen by all members for the post of convenor.
In addition, the group also requested Mamata Banerjee to be their chief advisor.
The faction has decided to give information regarding organizational restructuring to the Election Commission.
The political crisis arose due to bad electoral performance of the party.
It is believed that many MLAs and local leaders supported the rebel group.
The formation of parallel organization might have repercussions in politics of West Bengal.
The next move will depend on the reaction of the Election Commission.
This is one of the most serious political crises in the history of TMC.
