A press meet was organized by the District Congress in Congress Bhawan, Phulbani, Kandhamal district. The following were present during the event: PCC president Chandra Parida, National Youth Congress media secretary Raja Ahamat, Youth Congress president, and others.
In this connection, during a programme on Constitution-maker Babasaheb Ambedkar, Congress designated social media as the Fifth Pillar. As per Raja Ahamat, the Fifth Pillar has been designated taking into consideration the difficulties being encountered by people with respect to social media, silencing the voice of the people, deleting videos, and harassment in social media.
The speaker hoped that, through social media, Congress would be able to reach out to the people and address their issues. But, he expressed that there exists a tremendous amount of pressure on the fourth pillar, which is media, from the government side. Hence, the concept of the Fifth Pillar, which is social media, emerged. According to him, they could charge their phones and be independent and fight injustice.
