Amid the ongoing ceasefire between Iran and the United States, tensions around the Hormuz Strait have continued to rise. However, US President Donald Trump has now adopted a softer stance toward Iran’s nuclear program after returning from China.

Trump stated that the United States could consider a new agreement if Iran agrees to suspend its nuclear activities for 20 years. Earlier, he had demanded that Tehran permanently stop uranium enrichment. Now, however, he appears willing to negotiate under limited conditions.

Moreover, Trump’s latest remarks differ sharply from his earlier hardline position, where he insisted on a complete shutdown of Iran’s nuclear operations and rejected any possibility of nuclear weapons development. His recent statement also suggests that Washington is prepared to reopen diplomatic discussions.

Notably, during his first presidential term, Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal signed under former President Barack Obama.

Meanwhile, Trump claimed that he and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed that Iran should never obtain nuclear weapons. He also emphasized the importance of reopening the Hormuz Strait to ensure uninterrupted global energy supplies.

During discussions in Beijing, Trump said, “We do not want them to have nuclear weapons, and we want the strait to remain open.”

However, China has not issued any official statement regarding the discussions and has only called for an end to the conflict.
