During his 132nd Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi praises the Naga people for successfully keeping their cultural pulse alive while incorporating modern education. In this program, Modi throws the spotlight on Nagaland, where traditional wisdom and modern education seem to go hand-in-hand. One such traditional method, which is an example of the blend between traditional and modern education, is the ancient method of learning, i.e., the “Morung” system.
The traditional “Morung” system, which is an ancient method of learning, refers to an area where elder members of the tribe would teach the younger generation about history, culture, and life by telling stories. Today, it has transformed to accommodate the learning needs of today’s generation, including the teaching of math and science, while still retaining the traditional spirit. This blend of traditional learning with modern education is considered to be the key to healthy development.
He appreciates the Naga people’s initiative and believes it proves how culture can flourish even as education progresses. The Prime Minister also emphasized the need to look out for such innovative ideas in other parts of India and spread them widely so that we can build this kind of culture and shape the next generation.
