Campaign ends; tight security in place as key battles unfold in Bhabanipur and Nandigram
West Bengal final phase voting
West Bengal heads into the final phase of its legislative assembly elections tomorrow. Campaigning wrapped up Monday evening, so now all eyes are on making sure polling goes smoothly.
This round covers 142 constituencies across eight districts, including big areas like Kolkata, both North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, and Paschim Medinipur. It’s a crowded field, too—1,448 candidates are in the running, and competition is fierce.
Voters already turned out in force for the first phase back on the 23rd, where they picked representatives in 152 seats and hit a staggering 93% turnout. With that momentum, people expect the final round to draw big numbers again. We’ll see the results on May 4.
Some races have really captured people’s attention. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is running in Bhabanipur, and Suvendu Adhikari is contesting Nandigram. Everyone’s watching these closely.

The Election Commission isn’t taking chances with security. They’ve brought in central paramilitary forces for sensitive spots, set up CCTV and webcasting at risky booths, and sealed up the borders to keep things orderly. The goal is simple—keep polling day peaceful and fair.
