Cyber Crime Police register case amid TMC’s post-election turmoil
TMC MP case
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee has landed in fresh trouble after the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station in Kolkata registered an FIR against him. Police filed the case over allegations that he delivered a provocative speech during the West Bengal Assembly election campaign. Moreover, the complaint also referred to remarks he allegedly made against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Meanwhile, the political crisis inside the TMC has deepened after the party lost power in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The defeat marked one of the party’s biggest electoral setbacks in years. As a result, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee has now started efforts to rebuild the organisation.
In this context, Mamata Banerjee held an important review meeting at her Kalighat residence in Kolkata with all party candidates who contested the elections. Notably, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee also attended the meeting.
Furthermore, reports of internal unrest and speculation about leaders switching parties have increased after the defeat. However, Mamata Banerjee sent a strong message to party workers and leaders. She clearly stated that anyone wishing to leave the party is free to do so. At the same time, she confidently declared that she would rebuild the TMC once again.
