State cabinet approves major renaming decisions for zoo and dairy institute

The Bihar government officially removing the name of Sanjay Gandhi from key institutions and renaming them with a more neutral identity.
Firstly, the BJP-led government renaming Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park as “Patna Zoo.”
The cabinet approving this decision during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, where it clears proposals.
Government renaming the Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Dairy Technology as the “Bihar State Institute of Dairy Technology,” further reinforcing the shift in naming policy.
Previously, authorities naming the zoo after Congress leader Sanjay Gandhi, son of former PM Indira Gandhi, when it established in 1973.
Today, the zoo covers 153 acres and is home to more than 800 animals from 110 species.
The state government had also set up the dairy institute in 1980. Which is recognizing by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The institute continues to offer B.Tech & M.Tech programmes in dairy technology.
Additionally, the government aims to standardize institutional names and emphasize regional identity through these changes.
Furthermore, officials expect the decision to streamline branding and improve public recognition of state-run institutions.
Meanwhile, the cabinet has reinforced its policy of revising legacy names across public institutions.
Consequently, the government has signaled further reviews of similar names in the coming months.
