There are more than 6,000 cases of people having the disease. The number of deaths that have occurred due to the disease stands at more than 3,000.
Healthcare experts have noted that the virus is now spreading at an unprecedented pace. This makes it difficult for the authorities to contain the disease outbreak.
As per the Ministry of Health of Congo, there have been 6,186 infections since the global health emergency was declared midway through May.
Over the same period, 3,007 deaths have been reported.
In a report by the CDC, the outbreak has been identified as the fastest-spreading viral infection ever.
The virus has been spreading across six provinces of Congo.
How is Ebola Spread?
As compared to the COVID-19 virus, the Ebola virus cannot spread through the air. Nonetheless, the Ebola virus remains one of the most contagious diseases to date through direct contact.
Ebola virus can be spread by coming into contact with body fluids of infected persons. These body fluids may include blood, saliva, urine, vomit, and sweat.
Ebola virus can also spread through contact with the bodies of those who have died due to Ebola.
Moreover, animals that are infected can spread the Ebola virus to humans. Fruit bats are among the most recognized natural hosts for the Ebola virus.
Humans may be at risk of contracting the disease from both infected animals and their meat.
