TMC Leader Challenges the Legitimacy of the Rebel Party
Mahua Moitra, who is an MP from the Lok Sabha for the TMC, has made a strong offensive against rebel party MPs.
They have claimed that they have the backing of 20 other parliamentarians, but Moitra challenged this claim.
According to her, there has been no letter signed by them showing their strong backing.
She says this would have been clearly evident through a joint press conference by the two sides.
The rebel party MPs have been trying to be recognized as an independent parliamentary group.
Moitra rejected the allegation and dared them to provide any proof of their figures.
Her assertion was that the onus of proving the figures was upon the rebels.
The TMC leader further raised the issue of legal implications regarding recognition requirements.
In this regard, she referred to anti-defection laws laid down in the Constitution.
It is only a separate grouping, in her opinion, which does not amount to anything.
Mergers with another political party might be essential.
Moitra stated that simply sitting separately provided no legal cover.
Political analysts regard the conflict as a litmus test for TMC unity.
