2 Congress and 21 TVK MLAs Join Vijay Cabinet
TVK Cabinet Expansion
Tamil Nadu: The cabinet of the TVK government heading by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has been expanded. A total of 23 legislators, including 2 Congress MLAs and 21 TVK MLAs, were sworn in as ministers.
The swearing-in ceremony began at 10 a.m. today at Lok Bhavan. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office to the legislators. TVK MLAs, including Srinath, S. Kamali, C. Vijayalakshmi, and R.V. Ranjithkumar, were among the first to take oath as ministers.
With the induction of 23 new ministers, the strength of the cabinet under Chief Minister Vijay has increased to 33 members. Congress MLAs Rajesh Kumar S. and P. Viswanathan have also been inducted into the council of ministers.
Earlier, on May 10, Chief Minister Vijay and nine other legislators had taken oath as ministers at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
Congress MLA Rajesh Kumar, a seasoned politician from the Killiyoor constituency in Kanyakumari district, is a three-time legislator. The 51-year-old leader is also a former president of the Kanyakumari West District Congress Committee. In the election, he defeated TVK candidate S. Sabin by 1,311 votes.
P. Viswanathan won from the Melur constituency in Madurai district. The 61-year-old politician defeated TVK candidate A. Maduraiveeran by a margin of 2,724 votes in the election.
