Sambit Patra raises concerns over alleged ₹60 crore foreign trip spending.
BJP allegations
Rahul Gandhi faced fresh criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party over his foreign trips and alleged spending.
During a press conference, Sambit Patra questioned the funding behind Rahul Gandhi’s overseas visits.
Furthermore, Patra highlighted a large gap between Gandhi’s declared income and alleged travel expenses.
He claimed Rahul Gandhi made 54 private foreign trips between 2004 and 2026.
According to Patra, these visits reportedly cost nearly ₹60 crore.
However, he clarified that official government and parliamentary visits were excluded from this estimate.
Patra also referred to Rahul Gandhi’s election affidavits and Form 26 disclosures.
He stated Gandhi declared a total income of ₹11 crore between assessment years 2013-14 and 2022-23.
Consequently, Patra questioned how ₹60 crore was allegedly spent on foreign travel.
He argued the declared income did not match the reported travel expenditure.
Moreover, Patra noted Rahul Gandhi has remained an elected representative for the past 22 years.
According to publicly available information, Gandhi visited several countries during this period.
These countries reportedly included Italy, the UK, the US, Germany, Vietnam, and Singapore.
Additionally, Bahrain, the Maldives, Qatar, and the UAE appeared on the travel list.
Patra stressed that most of these foreign visits were already part of public records.
He said the evidence included host pages, press events, photographs, and parliamentary absence records.
Finally, Patra asked why the funding sources behind these visits were never publicly disclosed.
