Heavyweight leaders Modi & Mamata Banerjee make final push before silence period begins
Bengal voting April 29
Today is the last day of campaigning for the second phase of the West Bengal elections. Political parties are working hard to win over voters.
Heavyweight leaders hold rallies, roadshows, and public meetings on the last day to try to sway voters. The campaign will officially end before nightfall. Meanwhile, leaders and party workers are making last-minute efforts to sway voters in their favor.
The second phase of voting will take place on the 29th, covering 142 constituencies.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers at the Mahakali Temple in Kalibari; thereafter, he held a roadshow to seek support for BJP candidates. Through this visit, Modi connected with Bengali culture and faith to gain voters’ trust. As his rally moved forward, large crowds gathered on both sides of the road, chanting “Jai Shri Ram.” Notably, women and elderly people showered flowers on him from rooftops. Therefore, his roadshow in North Kolkata has become crucial, as the BJP aims to break into TMC strongholds.
On the other hand, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee addressed a rally in Bhabanipur and strongly campaigned for her party. She warned that if TMC fails to secure a two-thirds majority, the BJP may try to form the government by poaching TMC MLAs. Hence, she urged voters to ensure a massive victory for TMC to maintain good governance.
Earlier, the first phase of the West Bengal elections recorded a 92 percent voter turnout. Now, attention has shifted to the second phase.
