PM Urges Voters for Record Turnout millions of voters are actively casting their votes in the assembly elections of 2 major states. Thereby deciding their future for the next 5 years. Across regions, from the plains of Bengal to the coastal belts of Tamilnadu, voters are showing strong enthusiasm. Meanwhile, authorities began voting at 7 AM under tight security arrangements.
At the same time, 5,501 candidates are contesting across both states, and voters are determining their fate. Specifically, officials have started polling in all 152 seats of West Bengal and all 234 seats of Tamil Nadu. In addition, authorities have enforced strict security measures across 16 districts of West Bengal. During this phase, voters are deciding the fate of 1,478 candidates. From Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Jalpaiguri in North Bengal to East and West Medinipur in South Bengal, polling is continuing smoothly. Moreover, officials are closely monitoring 22 seats in Murshidabad and 31 seats in Medinipur. Overall, around 36 million voters, including over 17.5 million women, are participating in West Bengal.
Furthermore, Union Home Minister Amit Saha is personally monitoring the election process from a war room in Kolkata to for transparency and security. Similarly, in Tamil Nadu, 57.3 million voters are exercising their voting rights. This year 4,023 candidates are contesting, and electronic voting machines (EVMs) will determine their fate. Interestingly, along with traditional parties, actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, TVK, is posing a strong challenge in several constituencies.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to voters through a post on social media platform X in Tamil and Hindi, urging them to ensure record participation. In particular, he has encouraged youth and women in Tamil Nadu to come out in large numbers and vote. He has also emphasized that higher participation reflects the true strength of democracy.
Finally, to maintain peace and order, authorities have deployed 2,407 companies of Central Armed Police Forces. As a result, security agencies have tightened vigilance to prevent any disruption by anti-social elements. Additionally, the Election Commission has directed officials to maintain special alertness in sensitive areas.
