BJP announces 27 candidates’ list for Tamil Nadu Assembly elections

In the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the BJP has announced the names of 27 candidates. The list announced on Friday has come as a shock to many people because it does not contain the name of the erstwhile Tamil Nadu BJP Chief K. Annamalai. The exclusion of a prominent leader from the party’s list has led to strong reactions, with many questioning the status within the BJP’s state unit.

There were reports floating in political corridors for some time now that Annamalai might be taking up an important position, either contesting elections from Coimbatore North or Modakurichi. Both seats are being contested by Vanathi Srinivasan and Kirthika Sivakumar. It is believed that the ex-IPS officer Annamalai will not contest elections in the 2026 Assembly polls.

The party’s star candidate Tamilisai Soundararajan, who was recently appointed as the Governor of Telangana, has been selected from the coveted Mylapore seat. While Union Minister L. Murugan has been nominated from the Avanashi (SC) constituency, Nainar Nagendran, the state BJP chief, has been chosen from Sathur.
