Black money recovery campaign begins in Nepal
As soon as the new government was formed in Nepal, Prime Minister Balen Shah took a strong decision for a cleanup drive, i.e., an administrative crackdown has begun to recover black money.
First, by arresting former Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli, he has sent a message to everyone that the assets of leaders and officials from the past three decades will be directly accounted for.
The government has issued a 100-point good governance agenda. It clearly states that the assets of leaders and officials who held government positions from 1990 to 2026 will be investigated.
For this, a committee will be formed within the next 15 days, which will manage the entire process.
Earlier, there has been public dissatisfaction in Nepal regarding corruption allegations. Last year, the government had collapsed due to these corruption allegations. Because of this, the new government has taken this step to maintain public trust and confidence.
The Prime Minister said that this action will not be limited only to arrests.
According to available information: In the first phase, assets of officials who have served between 2006 and 2026 will be examined.
Then, officials who served between 1990 and 2005 will be examined.
To make the whole process stronger, the Prime Minister has directed Nepal Rastra Bank to prepare a digital asset registry within 100 days.
This will include records of all citizens’ bank accounts, digital wallets, share investments, etc., and will also have the ability to send messages to the agencies carrying out the investigations
