A few hours before Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s scheduled budget presentation, the Delhi Legislative Assembly received a bomb threat on Tuesday morning, officials said.
The threat was received via an email sent to the Assembly at 7:28 am, followed by another email sent to Speaker Vijender Gupta at 7:49 am.
Soon after the threat, security forces rushed to the spot and began thorough checks and a detailed search operation, and an investigation was initiated.
“We have increased security arrangements in and around the premises,” police sources said.
The email reportedly mentioned the names of several high-profile dignitaries, including Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Chief Minister Gupta, and Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
Police and security agencies have launched a probe to trace the origin of the email, and comprehensive anti-sabotage checks are underway, sources added.
The bomb threat to the Delhi Legislative Assembly has raised serious questions about the country’s security arrangements.
