According to a national media report, no mining has been auctioned in Odisha since 2023. However, 34 mines have been auctioned in Odisha recently. It is reported that these contain iron ore, bauxite, manganese, limestone, copper, gold, and other important minerals. These mines are located in Subarnapur, Malkangiri, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Balangir, Rayagada, Nuapada, Koraput, and Nayagarh.
The state government will auction 25 mines and the central government will auction 9. As per the Mines and Minerals Act 2015, the mines will be auctioned with a lease period of 50 years. According to a national media report, 25 of these are mines with major minerals and 9 are critical mineral mines.
It is worth mentioning that Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena informed the Assembly about the discovery of gold, diamond, and ruby mines in various parts of the state. It is reported that Madan Sahi-Kanjia in Mayurbhanj district and Jaldih gold mines in Keonjhar district will also be auctioned.
Graphite mines in Nayagarh, Rayagada, and Balangir, vanadium in Balangir, gold in Deogarh, and tin mines in Malkangiri will be auctioned.
