Authorities have enforced Section 163 of the BNSS in the strongroom areas as political tensions rise ahead of the West Bengal Assembly election counting on May 4.
The Election Commission will declare the results on May 4, and in the meantime, political temperatures in the state have surged to a peak. Meanwhile, concerns over EVM strongroom security have triggered a sharp confrontation between the TMC and BJP.
The administration acted swiftly after allegations of vote manipulation Friday. It has sealed a 200-metre perimeter around all seven designated EVM strongrooms in the city to ensure strict security.
In addition, Police Commissioner Ajay Nanda has issued a formal order under Section 163 of the BNSS. Under this order, authorities have placed a total ban on congregations of five or more people in the restricted zone. In addition, they have barred rallies, protests, and any form of public demonstration in the zone.
Security has been increased in anticipation of the counting date. Moreover, officials have stated that these restrictions aim to maintain law and order and prevent any possible disturbance near the strongrooms.
