Northeast Emerges as India’s Growth Engine: Jyotiraditya M. Scindia Highlights Vision for Ashtalakshmi States at NEtym 2026

At NEtym 2026, the Union Minister highlights the Northeast’s cultural richness, 93% literacy, and strategic role as India’s gateway to the Global South, urging youth to lead the nation’s growth story.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia was a part of NEtym 2026, the Northeast cultural festival organized by Hindu College. He referred to the Northeast as India’s Growth Engine for the Northeast. He referred to the Northeast as the “gateway to the Global South,” emphasizing the huge growth opportunities in eight states, the Ashtalakshmi of India.

With a literacy rate averaging at a high of 93%, he referred to the Northeast youth as those who would spearhead India’s growth. He referred to the Northeast’s cultural heritage, celebrating the Northeast’s cultural icons, Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg.

He recognized the Northeast’s strategic importance, referring to the Northeast’s huge growth opportunities for global economic and cultural exchanges. Programs such as NE SPARKS, Ashtalakshmi Darshan Programme, and the upcoming Advancing NER Portal would empower the Northeast youth. This would further reinforce the Northeast Growth Engine.

He concluded his speech with a call to shift from how the Northeast is to how it is becoming. He referred to the Northeast as a crucial growth engine for India’s Viksit Bharat.
