Tamil Nadu politics is hitting another turning point. Former BJP state president K. Annamalai recently quit the party. Word is, he could start his own regional party soon.
Annamalai was the BJP’s main man in Tamil Nadu. He boosted the party’s presence there through tough campaigning. Yet, post-election differences with party bigwigs grew regarding strategy and how things were run.
Sources say Annamalai met key BJP figures like Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari. They allegedly tried to talk him out of it. But, despite their best efforts, Annamalai is sticking to his guns according to various news reports.
Political watchers think Annamalai is trying to create a regional group with bigger national goals. Some say he might be pushing something called “Dravidian 2.0,” which could catch the imagination of younger people and career folks.
Speculation ramped up when his backers showed off posters urging a new political drive. Adding to that, Annamalai announced a press conference for June 5, where he’ll likely share what’s next for his political future and any launch details for a new party.
If he leaves, it could seriously impact theBJP’s growth plans in Tamil Nadu. Plus, it might shuffle up opposition strategies before the next round of elections too.
