There is now growing tension regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran claims that it has plans to create a new restricted area.
The proposed restricted area will include areas surrounding the vital water route.
At the same time, Tehran aims to limit ship traffic in the area.
The plans were announced by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
The newly appointed head of the council, Mohsen Rezaei, addressed the plans.
Rezaei talked to Iran’s national broadcaster on this matter.
Nevertheless, he offered very little information on how to put the plan into action.
According to him, the announcement could be made at any time.

The zone would be established towards the Persian Gulf.
The zone would also be established from the US naval blockade line.

In addition to this, Iran will identify vessels that sail into this zone.
These vessels will be added to a list of prohibited vessels.
Such actions will raise tensions in the Gulf even more.
It comes after some attacks between Iranian and American forces.
Iran had launched ballistic missiles on US naval ships.
The US, in its turn, had attacked three Iranian oil tankers.
As a result, worries are emerging about the passage through Hormuz.
