Ashutosh Ranka of CJP has condemned Assam Police for arresting him.

Police have also arrested over 40 volunteers accompanying him.

This occurred ahead of a scheduled meeting in Guwahati.

The meeting was scheduled to be held at the residence of Kunki Choudhury, the leader of AJP.

Later, the group was taken to 10th Assam Police Battalion headquarter.

Following his release from custody, Ranka termed the arrest illegal.

He also condemned the chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma.

“Cockroach movement in Assam is only getting started,” said Ranka.

Ranka said the meeting was supposed to be about government schools.

Youth employment and issues related to Kaziranga were on the agenda.

Issues of electoral delimitation was another discussion topic.

Ranka further alleged that police have acted to avoid any questions against the government.

No response has come from the Assam government.

NCP (SP) spokesperson Anish Gawande has also condemned this act.

He has termed the police action illegal and unconstitutional.

He has further alleged that police did not give prior notice before arresting them.

Officers had not explained the legality of their action, he alleged.
