Severe water shortage disrupts Ganesh immersion in Andhra Pradesh

Ganesh devotees of Puttlur found themselves lacking in adequate water supply.
They had to go to the river for immersing the Ganesh idols.
However, there was hardly any water in the riverbed.
Most of the devotees could not find an appropriate spot for immersion of their idols.
They were allegedly seen leaving their Ganesh idols in the dried-up riverbed.
Even other areas of Anantapur district were experiencing the same problem.
According to reports, several rivers, canals and tanks were found to have very little water.
Immersion ceremonies of devotees were being hampered by this problem.
The same kind of scenes was being witnessed in Yellanur and surrounding areas.
Water deficiency has been caused due to lack of rainfall.
Drought-like situation has also been experienced in this area.
Groundwater level has decreased in many areas.
Water deficiency has impacted irrigation and other needs.
Reports have also attributed this scenario to El Niño.
Religious celebrations have also been impacted by this problem.
Immersion of Lord Ganesh usually requires water sources.
This year, many places where immersion used to take place did not have any water source.
Dry riverbed has now become an indicator of this problem.
