The place exists along the Fraser River in British Columbia.

Here, families can perform cremation scattering in the designated area.
The city says that it is an inclusive public facility.
This project was necessitated by the community’s needs for the place.
Mayor Brenda Locke pointed out cultural and religious traditions.
Surrey decided on the designated place after environmental and technical considerations.
Also, there was community engagement before selection of the place.
Families should book dates and times before performing ceremonies.
Online booking starts on September 21.
The fee for each ceremony is 237 Canadian dollars.
This fee includes booking and supervising personnel costs.
Only cremation ashes can go into the Fraser River.
Flowers or other ritual objects cannot be left at the site.
It is meant to preserve the natural environment of the river.
It also helps in maintaining privacy and dignified shared use.
It will serve as a pilot project for the city.
Surrey will evaluate its future progress based on community feedback.
The process of developing the project started in 2024.
After careful evaluation, the Surrey Public Wharf was chosen.
