Abhishek Banerjee faces fresh CID investigation in West Bengal signature forgery case

National General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress Abhishek Banerjee is now facing fresh trouble due to the MLA signature forgery case in West Bengal.

Teams of investigators conducts searches at some places associating with the current case. This comes days after CID conducted raids on the office of TMC in Kolkata, which included the office of the party leaders. Investigators are looking into allegations against the forging of signatures of some TMC MLAs in certain papers submitted to the Assembly Speaker.

Another notice has been issued to Abhishek Banerjee, asking him to present himself before the CID on June 14 for questioning. In the case, senior TMC leader Kunal Ghosh has also been summoned.

Recently, Banerjee was interrogated for over five hours by CID officers in connection with some documents and the records of the party.

High Court of Calcutta granted interim protection to Abhishek for 21 days from any coercive action. But, he was ordered to cooperate with investigators fully.

Enforcement Directorate Searches Seven Premises Related to Madan Mitra

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate raided seven premises that belonged to the TMC MLA and ex-minister Madan Mitra.

These raids have been conducted in connection with the municipal recruiting scam case. The probe into the case is being done on allegations that unfit persons were awarded jobs in the municipalities with the help of bribes.

Sources from the Enforcement Directorate have said that investigators have begun going through the documents related to the appointments.

Political Reactions Intensify

The developments have reignited political tensions in West Bengal.

Opposition parties describe the investigations as necessary anti-corruption measures. TMC leaders maintain that central agencies are targeting opposition leaders for political reasons.

With fresh summons, court proceedings, and ongoing raids, the legal and political pressure on senior TMC leaders continues to grow ahead of crucial political battles in the state.
