Tamil Nadu has officially welcomed a new government under TVK leader Joseph Vijay. After securing a massive victory in the Assembly elections, Vijay successfully formed the government with the support of alliance partners. Although TVK won 108 seats, the party initially failed to prove a clear majority because Vijay contested from two constituencies, reducing the effective strength to 107 MLAs.
However, Congress soon extended support with its five MLAs. Later, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML also backed TVK, helping Vijay cross the majority mark. Consequently, the Governor invited him to form the government.
On Sunday morning, Vijay took oath as Chief Minister at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium along with nine cabinet ministers.
Now, Vijay faces several important challenges. First, he must maintain stability within the multi-party alliance. Since coalition governments often face internal pressure, he needs to balance the interests of all supporting parties.
Moreover, he must distribute ministerial portfolios carefully to avoid dissatisfaction among allies.
At the same time, Vijay must shift from his film-star image to grassroots politics. He now needs to connect directly with common people and address public concerns effectively. Furthermore, the people of Tamil Nadu expect him to follow the leadership style of former icons J. Jayalalithaa and M.G. Ramachandran.
In addition, Vijay must strengthen the state’s economy, create employment opportunities, and build an efficient administrative team.
Meanwhile, the strong opposition from DMK will continue to test his leadership skills. Therefore, the coming months will play a crucial role in deciding the future stability and success of the new Tamil Nadu government.
